Ident Animation

A few months ago for an animation project we were asked to create an ident that we could use for our personal use for things such as our websites or showreels etc. I wanted to do something in 3D as I felt it was one of my strongest areas. I decided to go with a production line style where it creates the letters of my name to then create the word 'Josh'. I added some dub-step music which I think fitted in with the style of this animation and added some glitchy parts in the video to go with the music.
Created in Lightwave 3D. Edited together and effects added in Final Cut Pro X.

Dystopian Environment

In one project we got given last year I had to create a dystopian style environment and create a video and renders of the scene. I really liked this project and it gave me the freedom to create what I wanted and imagined a dystopian environment to be like.

Contextual Studies Essay

This essay was an examination of the video game 'Saints Row 3' in relation to contemporary critical theory (Jean Baudrillard)
For this essay we were asked to pick a video game or film which we could analyse and compare to contemporary critical theory.

Ideal Home

This project was done way back in 2010 for my first college course. I had to create an ideal room that we would like to live in in 3D. I included a nice sofa, a Playstation 3 because I like to do a bit of gaming when I have some free time and I also have a big TV and football on it! (Created in Lightwave 3D.)

Soul Buggin' DJ Visuals

This was a client brief we did at college for a local DJ who wanted some visuals creating for his 80's music club nights that take place every month.
Once I had researched 80's style themes and came up with some good ideas I created this video in After Effects!

3D Typography

We were asked to choose a motivational speech from a film we liked and create a 3D typographic video for it. I chose the film 'Kicking & Screaming' which stars Will Ferrell who coaches an unsuccessful kids 'soccer' team in America. The speech is from his assistant manager and former NFL player Mike Ditka who is trying to encourage the players to battle and try and win the game. I created this video in Lightwave 3D.

Rotting Fruit & Frying Mushroom Time-Lapse

For an animation/moving image project we got given a while ago I decided to photograph fruit over a period of time until it had gone rotten. I set up my camera in my bedroom and used an intervalometer which would automatically tell the camera to take a picture. I set the interval for about 10 minutes in between each image. After about 5 days it started to stink! The mushroom time-lapse was done over a period of about 5 minutes with the cooker on the highest temperature.

Interactive Helicopter Project

This video is a segment from a project where we had to create an interactive flash video but from an unusual perspective. I chose to do it as though you are in an r/c helicopter, but added turrets to it for a more interesting take! This video is part of an interactive flash video where in other parts the r/c helicopter explores different areas. The areas I chose were the Bedroom (see video above) and the kitchen. In the flash version there is a big red button in on the helicopter dashboard that you have to press at certain points in order to continue on. Pressing this button fires out a laser beam or bullet (depending on what you select in the weapon select screen). Software used was Photoshop, After Effects and Flash.

Nottingham Forest F.C. Stadium Redesign

These renders are from my final major project on my BTEC National Diploma course in Multimedia I completed in 2011. I wanted to recreate Nottingham Forest's stadium in 3d, as Forest are my local team and I wanted to challenge myself and my 3d skills. I created this model in Lightwave 3d, over about a 4 month period that included designing, development and the actual making of the model. I am really proud of this piece and have received good comments about it when I posted it on some of the Nottingham Forest Facebook pages.

Tilt Shift Time-lapse in Scarborough

This video is from when I was experimenting in different time-lapse formats. When researching time-lapse videos on YouTube, I founds a few by a man called 'Keith Loutit'. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Elc_xs-RPAU )I really enjoyed his videos as they were so detailed and imaginative, exploring different landscapes using this 'tilt-shift' effect. I instantly fell in love with this technique and wanted to try it myself, so during a summer break to Scarborough in 2011 I decided to have a go and take pictures through the hotel window! Post production was done in After Effects to create the tilt-shift look.
